This original method shapes washi in three-dimensional forms without the use of bamboo strips or adhesives. It allows for expression with freely curved surfaces and does not suffer from adhesive deterioration over time. The ISHI/TANE series was started in 1993 using a method akin to the shedding of an insect shell, and resin has been incorporated in recent years to reinforce the structures. With advancements in LED lighting, the possibilities of three-dimensional washi continue to expand.
