Washi dome,16m wide and 8m high. A special three-dimensional fabrication technique was employed, embedding the stainless steel frame in the washi. The dome is placed at the entrance to a room that exhibits earthenware from the Jomon period (14th millennium BC to 300 BC), and is meant to suggest a prehistoric pit dwelling or geological stratum. A relief-like texture stands out when sunlight strikes the bits of rope and bark embedded in the paper. After sunset, internal lighting reveals the dynamic outlines of the steel frame and ropes. The parts facing the passage, where visitors may touch the walls, were strengthened by adding resin to the paper.
