PORTFOLIO
SOGO Shinsaibashi Main Store
Osaka 2005
Artwork for installation in the basement, ground floor, and 14th floor atriums of the Osaka department store. The designs express the motifs of eggs (life source) in the basement, a chrysalis on the ground floor, and a flying butterfly in the 12th to 14th floor atrium. When seen from below, the flying butterfly expresses newborn life. Arranged along the vertical axis of the store, there designs express the eternal cycle of life, and the continuity and regeneration of all things. They dynamically combine the 1300-year-old traditions of washi, the latest papermaking technology, and various modern processing techniques.
